On June 2, PlayStation owners received the big news that God of War: Ragnarok had been postponed back to 2022. In addition to this important announcement PlayStation Studios made this clear that despite the delay Ragnarok still comes on the PS4. This is great news for users who have not yet been able to upgrade to PS5. However, many people have also wondered if Gran Turismo 7 will still follow a similar path.
Fortunately for PS4 owners, PlayStation Studios manager Hermen Hulst has confirmed that Gran Turismo 7 is on track for release for both consoles. This message is not too surprising given the considerable PS4 installation base. As Hulst mentioned, they have built a “community of more than 110 million PS4 owners.” Just as PS5 users may want Sony to continue, they cannot realistically leave this massive group.
While games like Gran Turismo 7 and God of War: Ragnarok will still be cross-gen games, there are still a few games that only come on next-generation hardware. For example, we just saw Sony release Returnal and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart coming on June 11th. These show games will slowly become the norm in the next few years, but for now there is no financial sense to keep games from so many PS4 owners, especially with how difficult it has been to get a PS5 since the system was launched.
So if, like many, you can’t get your hands on the shiny new PS5, you’ll still be able to play some of the biggest games in the Sony library until 2022. Hopefully we’ll hear a lot more about Gran Turismo 7 and other upcoming PlayStation games. in the next few months.
