The King of Fighters XV will be another game in SNK’s long-running franchise. The game was originally scheduled to be launched sometime in 2021; however, developers have postponed this launch date due to growing cases of COVID-19 in Japan. Now players can look forward to launching the game in the first quarter of 2022.
In addition to this announcement, the team also revealed that for the first time in more than ten years, the game will be launched simultaneously on multiple platforms. The King of Fighters XV comes with releases on PC, PS4, PS5 and Xbox Series X | S. This is a big change from KOF XIV, which was launched exclusively on the PS4 in 2016, before finally getting into the PC and arcades next year. It is also the first KOF game to come on the Xbox platform since XIII came to 360 in 2011.
This re-introduction of new platforms and the simultaneous launch of the game may mean that the game can support crossplay. Of course, until SNK confirms this, it is pure speculation; however, it would not be a surprise if the developers decided to include it. After all, fighting games need a robust community to survive, and opening a player base is one way to do that.
In the coming months, we should expect to learn more about the King of Fighters XV. SNK is likely to push the game quite hard at events such as the Tokyo Game Show in September as the launch date approaches.
