The Resident Evil Village PC specs are needlessly complicated, so we try to decipher them

The specifications of PC Resident Evil Village are unnecessarily complicated, which is why we try to decrypt them

PC requirements for Resident Evil Village have arrived, it’s not just your usual specification tables.

Capcom today introduced all the PC specifications needed for operation Resident Evil Village on PC. As a welcome change, the developer actually published performance targets for each set of specifications – but at least in this case, it got worse.

Not surprisingly, the specifications of the computer, posted on Steam previously also confirmed that ray tracing – a feature that was recently announced in the most bizarre way – will work on both Nvidia and AMD graphics cards. The extent of ray tracing support in the village has yet to be properly sketched, so for now, best adjust your expectations.

Village seems to offer the “Prioritize Framerate” option on the PC, which is what Capcom seemingly suggested around the minimum specifications. There will also be an “Favor Visuals” option, more suitable for the recommended specifications. Both sets should provide 1080p at 60 fps if the appropriate setting is selected, according to Capcom.

Over on the game official website, Capcom complicates this by explaining that the recommended specifications can also provide 4K at 60 or 45 fps, but only if certain GPUs are present. It’s all unnecessarily complicated, and it doesn’t help that we only have a Japanese reference for some of these details. However, we will try to summarize everything nicely.

Minimum computer specifications for Resident Evil Village

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit.
  • processor: Intel Core i5-7500 / AMD Ryzen 3 1200.
  • FRAME: 8 GB.
  • GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 Ti with 4 GB VRAM / AMD Radeon RX 560 with 4 GB VRAM.
  • DirectX: DirectX 12.
  • Estimated power: 1080p / 60fps (when set to Prioritize Performance). In graphically demanding scenes, the frequency may drop.
  • Ray tracking: Nvidia Geforce RTX 2060 / AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT required.

Resident Evil Village recommended computer specifications

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit.
  • processor: Intel Core i7 8700 / AMD Ryzen 5 3600.
  • FRAME: 16 GB.
  • GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 / AMD Radeon RX 5700.
  • DirectX: DirectX 12.
  • Estimated power: 1080p / 60fps (when set to Prioritize Visuals). In graphically demanding scenes, the frequency may drop.
  • Ray tracking: Nvidia Geforce RTX 2070 / AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT required.

GPU Resident Evil Village with 4K support

  • Nvidia Geforce RTX 2070 (4K / 45fps).
  • Nvidia Geforce RTX 3070 (4K / 60fps).
  • AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT (4K / 45fps).
  • AMD Radeon RX 6800 (4K / 45fps).
  • AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT (4K / 60fps).

It is still not clear which GPU you are using actually need beam tracking at 4K. In one case, Capcom says the RTX 2070 and 6700 XT are “required” for beam tracking at all. In another publisher says they are capable of beam tracking at 4K at 45 fps.

Village’s ray tracing implementation may be so well optimized that that mid-range cards can deliver almost 4K60 with it on. It is also possible that something in translation is being lost. We update this story when a blog post appears in English.

Resident Evil Village will be released on May 7 on PC, PS4, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S.
