Most skills can be picked up right away, but a few – including the very popular ones Magic magazine – have some unlock requirements attached.

In this guide, we’ll look at what Mercenaries abilities do, how to pick them up, and how to unlock the really good ones.

How to use abilities in Resident Evil Village: The Mercenaries

As you play The Mercenaries, you will notice that balls are scattered around each phase. The yellow balls add extra time to the stage blue balls contain abilities.

To pick up and equip an ability, you simply need to get within range and press the interaction button when prompted. You then have a choice of three random activation abilities.

If the same ability appears on stage more than once, you can equip it several times. The effect accumulates, which can be very strong. There’s also no limit to how many abilities you can have at once, so there’s literally no need to linger when you see a blue ball around.

All abilities you pick up will persist between areas in the same game. However, when you start a new game, you will not keep any of them.

Magic Magazine | How to get locked abilities in Resident Evil Village: The Mercenaries

You have to get With rank or higher on each of the four stages of Part I add Magic magazine, Execution, Lightning speed, a Masamune to a random group of abilities that you find in the balls.

Recommended skills

The abilities you find in the balls will be random, so there is a limit to the extent to which you can plan to build characters. And as we’ve already pointed out, there’s no reason to ignore the ball, even though none of the abilities on offer are particularly inspiring.

However, due to the selection, we always recommend to give priority Magic magazine and Execution once they are unlocked. Unlike the other two unlockable abilities, equipping neither is a devil’s business. They allow you to stack ammunition capacity and fatal damage indefinitely, without disadvantage.
