The two key people who have defined Infinity Ward’s production in recent years go on.
Taylor Kurosaki and Jacob Minkoff left Call of Duty: Modern Warfare developer Infinity Ward. The pair revealed news in prepared statements made by them published on their official Twitter accounts in sync.
The two joined Naughty Dog in 2014 and played a major role in redefining the identity of the legendary studio and in discovering its plays, starting with Infinite Warfare. Kurosaki served as a studio narrative director, responsible primarily for single-player campaigns and the overall tone of Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare, while Minkoff served as design director.
“Earlier this year, we decided to move from Infinity Ward to take advantage of a rare and exciting new opportunity,” the couple said, promising to share where they were headed soon.
It’s hard to speculate what would cause such heavy weights to leave Infinity Ward without knowing the next opportunity. But the timing is curious, because Infinity Ward is probably deep in the development of the next Modern Warfare, which should be released next year – unless the three-year development cycle breaks again.
It will be interesting to see if the tone and impression of the next game change as a result, especially in the campaign. Sensitivity influenced by Kurosaki and Minkoff’s Naughty Dog changed Call of Duty forever.
