MLB: Show 21 dominates sales in April after switching to multiplatform – NPD

April was a bit of a quiet month for the gaming industry.

The NPD In April, the group published a report on the physical and digital business of games in the USA. Consumer spending on hardware, software and accessories reached $ 4.6 billion last month, down 2% from April last year.

Hardware

Hardware dollar revenue was down 30% from April last year, bringing in $ 296 million. However, compared to April 2019, they look much better with an increase of 84%.

The Nintendo Switch is again the best-selling console of the month in dollars and unit sales. So far, the Switch has maintained its lead as the best-selling console of 2021.

Software

The most exciting April launch was MLB: The Show 21, the best-selling game of the month, and the third best-selling game of 2021 so far. Xbox – the first in this franchise.

MLB: The Show 21 was surprisingly the best-selling game on the PlayStation in April and the second best-selling on the Xbox. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War sold second overall, followed by New Pokemon Snap third.

As Nintendo’s exclusives tend to be, New Pokemon Snap was Switch’s best-selling game, with retail sales for the month more than double that of the original Pokemon Snap. Another major exclusion in April was PS5’s Returnal, which came out on the last day of the month and finished eighth overall and third on PlayStation.
