Candles are a fun and colorful source of light in Minecraft. They were added in the main update of Caves & Cliffs Part 1. Each of them emits level 3 light when illuminated by a fire charge or a stone and steel. When placed, they can be placed on top of each other up to 4 per square, which adds up to the 12th light source. Candles can be both handcrafted and colored, great for both decorative use and for marking trails during adventures. Here’s how to make and color candles in Minecraft.

  • 1 string
  • 1 honeycomb (directly under the string)

Craft table: Is not required

Making candles is easy, but you will have to have a honeycomb to make them. The honeycomb is obtained with a mantle full of hives, but don’t forget to light a campfire under it to make sure the bees are not angry with you for taking their honey. The easiest way to get a string is to kill spiders.

Dying candles

  • 1 candle
  • 1 dye (anywhere)

Craft table: Is not required

Dying candles is easy. You can take a candle you’ve already created and add one of 16 color colors to color it. Mix your dye into one color before placing if you want candles of a secondary color. Inserting more than one dye with a candle will not produce any output. Colored candles cannot be blushed.
